It\u2019s one of the two most used recruitment sources (the other being Indeed.com) and continues to grow in membership and reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/f.hubspotusercontent40.net\/hubfs\/3294842\/LinkedIn%20for%20PM%20Career%201.png\" alt=\"LinkedIn for PM Career 1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With free account profiles, every savvy Project Manager, Agile Practitioner, Business Analyst, or really, any professional should be on LinkedIn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-be-apart\">How to Be Part Of LinkedIn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 300px; float: right; margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/f.hubspotusercontent40.net\/hubfs\/3294842\/LinkedIn%20for%20PM%20Career%202.png\" alt=\"LinkedIn for PM Career 2\" width=\"300\">The first step of course, is going to Linkedin.com and setting you\u2019re your account. It is a social network, which means, if you do nothing with your profile, then it will do nothing to help your career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">a.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Nice to Meet You | Set Up Your Profile<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are lots of resources for LinkedIn profile tips out there, and it is an easy process. If you already have a profile, make sure that you can log in to it, and make plans to update it. At the most basic level, your profile should include a professional photo, headline, current job, and education. To kick start your profile set up, here are two resources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/112133\">How Do I Create a Good LinkedIn Profile?<\/a><\/li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.job-hunt.org\/linkedin-job-search\/powerful-linkedin-headline.shtml\">Powerful LinkedIn Headline<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">b.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Networking \/ Connection Strategy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With a profile in place, now the network part comes into play. In career workshops, I\u2019m often asked, \u201cHow many connections do I need to have?\u201d There is not a perfect number, but if you have less than 50 it is clear you are newer to the platform or not actively engaged. Have a strategy so that you can grow your network: set a target number, determine focus of networking, create template connect request message, set time to find people on the site. Here are ways to get names within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/118\">LinkedIn for sending Connect requests<\/a> to others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Find people you know via Company search<\/li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Connect to groups that are in your industry or field via Group search<\/li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Find alumni and\/or schoolmates via Organization name search<\/li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Request <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/31888\/skill-endorsements-overview?lang=en\">endorsements<\/a> from those that have worked with you<\/li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Offer endorsements to others in exchange for connections<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter how you find the person with which to connect, include a custom message when you send the connection request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">c.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Build Your Feed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The feed is the professional information, posts, shares, etc. that make up the content on the site. Learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/85598\">Feed from LinkedIn,<\/a> then get to enhancing yours to increase the use of the site in your professional life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/3539\">organizations<\/a><\/li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/72150\">people<\/a><\/li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in;\">Share! Comment, like, and share with the posts of others<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>An active feed keeps your name on other people\u2019s mind. It shows you are engaged in the professional community and an active part of the professional network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tell Your Story<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn is an employment-related social network, so cute though the new puppy may be, try and keep your posts around professional topics. That said, it is a network, and posting about issues, trends, events, and professional themes can be appropriate if within a business context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above all, use the platform as part of your professional brand. Consider what would be of interest or value to others in your field, and what you may want a future employer to see. LinkedIn allows your personality to come through in the context of information you would feel comfortable sharing with any co-worker.
