To stay current with global business changes, the exam itself is updated every few years. The current iteration of the exam will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmi.org\/certifications\/types\/project-management-pmp\/earn-the-pmp\/pmp-exam-preparation\/pmp-exam-updates\">end on December 31, 2020<\/a> and a new exam launches on January 2, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/f.hubspotusercontent40.net\/hubfs\/3294842\/Earn%20Your%20PMP%20in%202020%201.png\" alt=\"Earn Your PMP in 2020 1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that the change is for the EXAM only and not the Certification itself. The PMI has given over twelve months\u2019 notice for the exam change to allow \u201c\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmi.org\/certifications\/project-management-pmp\/earn-the-pmp\/pmp-exam-preparation\/pmp-exam-updates\">candidates with additional time and access to training resources to help them prepare and sit for the exam confidently<\/a>.\u201d There are only few months left in 2020 in which you can leverage vetted training resources and best practices for the current PMP Certification exam format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-long-to-prep\">How Long Does It Take to Prep for the PMP\u00ae Exam?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not the time to block off a day to cram and hope for the best. One survey of 100 PMP\u00ae certification holders asked how long they studied, and the answers ranged from a week to&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/pmexamlessonslearned.com\/pmp\/pmp-exam-preparation-faq\/3\/#.X1JGmHlKgdU\">6 months<\/a>! The conclusion was about&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/pmexamlessonslearned.com\/pmp\/pmp-exam-preparation-faq\/3\/#.X1JGmHlKgdU\">2 months of 2 &#8211; 3 hours daily study<\/a>&nbsp;(so roughly, 90days x 2.5 hours = 225 hours).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One Project Manager blogger asked&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.taskque.com\/preparing-for-pmp-exams-this-is-how-long-it-would-take\/\">PMP\u00ae certification holders \u201cHow long did PMP \u00ae exam prep take you?\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;and found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.projectmanagementacademy.net\/hs-fs\/hubfs\/Earn%20Your%20PMP%20in%202020%202.png?width=1318&amp;name=Earn%20Your%20PMP%20in%202020%202.png\" alt=\"Earn Your PMP in 2020 2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2020 exam will be available for only a few more months. It is critical that you create a study plan for your PMP\u00ae certification work. Your own situation will shape how and when you study, but the key point is this: STUDY. Prep courses are a powerful way to shape your study work to ensure you align with the current exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"need-to-study\">Do You Need to Study if You are Already a Project Manager?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes. A lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PMP\u00ae Certification exam is not a test of how you or your company practices project management. It is not a test of how you personally manage challenging projects. It is grounded in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmi.org\/pmbok-guide-standards\">Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)<\/a>&nbsp;and asks questions in a very specific way that frequently does not reflect how the skills are practiced in real-world business settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be the most senior Project Manager in your organization, and your expertise will be of help in the more complex situational questions. But it does not prepare you for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmi.org\/pmbok-guide-standards\">technicalities or PMBOK<\/a>&nbsp;specifics within the exam.
